WHAT ARE BASIC THINGS I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TEA?
Genuine tea is made from dried leaves of the tea plant (Camellia Sinensis) which was originally grown and farmed in China and was also found to be naturally growing in India. Other countries such as Japan were introduced to the concept of tea by the European traders and Chinese monks. In modern times there are over 3000 different types of tea and each individual tea has been uniquely named for the area where it is grown. Each tea has a different way of preparing the leaves. Green tea is prepared by steaming fresh-picked leaves before heat-drying them. Black tea is prepared by allowing picked tea leaves to completely ferment before firing. Oolong teas are only partially fermented. White tea is the least processed. It is merely withered and dried by steaming it.
The modern term "tea" derives from early Chinese dialect words - such as Tchai, Cha and Tay - used to describe both, the beverage and the leaf. Tea plant (Camellia Sinensis) is an evergreen plant of the Camellia family. It has smooth, shiny pointed leaves which look similar to the privet hedge leaf found in British gardens.
