The original name of Gunpowder is 'Zhu Cha' which means 'Pearl Tea' on account of the way it is rolled during production. Gunpowder is a beautiful natural beverage that boosts up the immune system and cleans the liver and glands. Our organic early spring tea produces a light and deliciously sweet flavour with typical for Gunpowder smoky notes.
Gunpowder tea dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It is believed to take its English name from the fact that the tea resembles gunpowder pellets used for cannons. Indeed, during infusion, the leaves open up suddenly like exploding gunpowder, inviting you to watch the amazing transformation. Another theory is that it may come from the Mandarin Chinese term gāng paò dè, which means "freshly brewed," and sounds like the English word "gunpowder."
